Straight Up Press

Pacific Northwest USA

micro-publishing, workshops, and
consultant to independent authors

Beth Quinn Barnard founded micro-publishing house Straight Up Press in 2009 to publish My Phantom: The Memoir of Christine Daaé under the pseudonym Anstance Tamplin in a   one-year experiment to test the market for a new novel by an unknown author backed by minimal, Internet-only marketing. The following year, Straight Up Press began reissuing as print-on-demand and digital books the  backlist of novels she wrote as Elizabeth Quinn for Worldwide Library and Pocket Books. Two Elizabeth Quinn titles are currently available — Alliances and Any Day Now —  at online retailers Amazon, Kobo, and the iBookstore, and pre-production work is underway on her Alaska-based Lauren Maxwell mysteries. Once her full backlist is reissued, Straight Up Press will focus on niche non-fiction about southern Oregon and the Finger Lakes region of New York state. Straight Up Press is not accepting submissions at this time.

In association with EQB Productions, Beth offers workshops on fiction writing and self-publishing, including Write Your Novel and Your Book Your Way.

A longtime workshop leader and writing teacher, Beth designed Write Your Novel for absolute beginners looking for help starting a novel and working writers looking for guidance or support. Workshop meetings will include discussion, lecture and critique. Between meetings workshop participants will work on a series of take-home exercises. At the end of the multi-session workshop, absolute beginners should have a solid plan for their novel, and working writers should have at least one polished chapter of their work-in-progress.

Your Book Your Way is designed for absolute beginners of all ages who want to learn the basics of self-publishing: Who self-publishes? What is self-publishing? Where do people self-publish? Why do people self-publish? How much does self-publishing cost? The digital revolution transforming our lives means everyone can be a published author. Whether your book is a novel, a memoir or a family history, a collection of photographs, recipes or how-to business tips, you can publish it today: Your Book Your Way.
